Company Overview
Nomadix is the leading provider of solutions that create intelligent public access networks. Our products enable carriers, service operators, wireless ISPs and venue owners to deploy an easy to use, revenue-producing Wi-Fi service.
Our Nomadix Service Engine ™ (NSE) is placed at the edge of the network (in the HotSpot or HotZone) to leverage a centralized provisioning system. This gives the provider maximum deployment flexibility by supporting the widest range of billing, authentication and wholesale roaming models while giving the user a hassle free connectivity experience.
The NSE offers the most comprehensive set of features and functionality, and is available as a licensable software package or on our line of Access Gateways capable of servicing any type of HotSpot – from a large, multi-cell location like an airport to a small, single cell coffee shop.
The NSE Core runs our family of Access Gateways and has a proven deployment record with over 35,000 units shipped throughout the world. Optional NSE Modules are available to further enhance the functionality of the NSE Core. The NSE provides functionality in the following key areas:
- I. Connectivity
Acquire new customers in a public access network at zero cost by allowing them to transparently and securely connect to their network through Nomadix’ patented Dynamic Address TranslationTM technology without having to change any configuration settings or load any special client side software.
- II. Service Provisioning
Once connected to the public access network, Nomadix’ Home Page Redirection feature intercepts the user’s browser settings and directs them to a web site to securely sign up for service or log in if they have a pre-existing account. Nomadix offers redirection opportunities both pre and post authentication as well as at session termination for maximum branding flexibility for both the provider and the HotSpot owner.
- III. Access Control
Nomadix’ products can block access to the Internet or allow access to a pre determined “Walled Garden” area of the web until the user has been authenticated. In addition to supporting the secure Browser-based Universal Access Method, Nomadix simultaneously supports Port-based Authentication using IEEE 802.1x and authentication mechanisms used by Smart Clients by companies such as Boingo Wireless, GoRemote and iPass. Nomadix products enable multiple authentication models providing the maximum amount of flexibility to the end user and to the operator by supporting any type of client entering their network and any type of business relationship on the back end.
- IV. Billing Plan Enablement
Nomadix supports a wide variety of billing models enabling the deployment of profitable public access networks. Our solutions allow service operators or venue owners to create billing plans using credit cards, scratch cards or that enable monthly subscriptions—then bill by a host of different parameters including time, volume, or bandwidth. Users can also be billed directly to their room bill through a Property Management Interface (PMS) in a hotel setting.

V. Advanced Security
VPN tunneling (PPTP, IPSec) remains the recommended method for transmitting data across a wireless network for mobile workers wishing to connect back to their corporate resources. Nomadix’ products feature its patent-pending iNAT functionality that creates an intelligent mapping of IP Addresses and their associated VPN tunnels allowing multiple tunnels to be established to the same VPN server creating a seamless connection for all the users at the public access location
Nomadix was founded by Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, a father of the Internet. Dr. Kleinrock conducted the pioneering research on 'packet switching' that is widely credited with making today's information revolution possible. With the founding of Nomadix in 1998, Kleinrock shifted his focus to developing a software mobility solution to realize the Internet's true potential of a completely transparent networked world.
